Director of Technology

Oversee YCC's technical infrastructure, software development, and data protection practices.

Description

Lead the team responsible for providing our consultants, committee and clients with technology solutions while serving as the organisation’s Data Protection Lead to ensure GDPR compliance and data security across YCC’s operations. Focus areas include software design and development, web development, technical advice, IT support systems (e.g., Google Workspace and Slack), and overseeing data protection policies, breaches, and audits.

This role will interest someone looking to lead a team building systems and tools to ensure our work is of the highest standard, whilst promoting data privacy and cyber security within a student consultancy. The ideal candidate would be someone with a constant drive to learn, determination to share this learning, and expertise in compliance and security. It requires programming knowledge, leadership aptitude, and a proactive approach to security and operations.

Responsibilities

Maintaining source code, technical standards and documentation
Implement Agile development practices within the team
Assist in resolving technical issues where required
Ensure YCC members have access to technical support
Oversee the development and maintenance of YCC web applications
Remain responsive to any emergency requests (e.g. security breaches)
Ensure the security of our web applications and data through good coding practices and GDPR compliance
Manage data capture, organisation, storage, and protection (including breaches, audits, privacy and retention policies)
Administer IT systems; update passwords, curate emails / filters, manage Slack channels & apps
Support and mentor the Technology department
Control your team’s budget, and maintain electronic records in accordance with the YCC charter
Be responsible for the organisation’s data protection; conduct audits, handle access requests, and advise the wider committee
Organise weekly team meetings for the department
Attend the semesterly committee meetings
Attend regular director meetings
